Pilsner Urquell

Uses the highest quality Bohemian and Moravian barley to make our beer, which has just two rows of grain on each ear and a fine husk. Barley cannot be fermented during the brewing process without being malted first, converting its starches into a sugar, known unsurprisingly as maltose. The raw, fine husk barley is malted on-site by master maltsters. The barley is first steeped in water for germination and then it is kiln dried and ground. This ensures the optimal modified malt for the characteristic flavor of our beer. Our choice of barley and malting techniques produce a pale malt with a low protein count. This is the main contributor to achieving Pilsner Urquell’s famous and distinctive golden hue, clarity and paleness
