Koruna absinth has been created from premium quality natural herbs grown in the Czech Republic including wormwood (artemisia absinthium) – some of which remains in the bottle. Koruna is very pale in colour, a light greenish-yellow and it has a good layer of solid sediment at the bottom of the bottle. That sediment is some of the wormwood and herbs used in the preparation of the spirit and it gives this absinthe a unique look. The spirit base is distilled from molasses which technically makes this product a flavored rum. Koruna is rum-sweet and quite pleasant, both straight and in the traditional preparation with sugar and cold water. It is important to note that Koruna is not a blanche absinthe and does not louche. The herbal character here is very sedate compared to most absinthes, with a comparably mild licorice note, backed by some slightly bitter orange peel character. Czech connoisseurs have respected the superior quality of this traditional Bohemian recipe for more than 100 years. It is considered by many to be the best absinth available. Koruna is the only genuine absinth in Australia that is made from all natural ingredients, has the maximum legal amount of thujone (9mg per litre), contains no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives, and contains actual wormwood. The label bears a fiece looking crowned gargoyle. Koruna is the Czech word for Crown and traditionally, gargoyles protected the Czech Crown for eternity. The marketing campain for this absinth suggests that Koruna is a spirit fit for a King.
